How It Got Started

12 years of different lineups. This is the current lineup featuring founding members Jerry B Goode and Cody Eads. |

| I guess you could say it all started way back in the summer of '80,when Cody and I met a new kid in school, Rick Stepp. We became fast friends and lived, breathed and tried to play Rock and Roll Music. After Cody returned from an oldies tour where he played bass for Gary Lewis and the Playboys, The Drifters, Lou Christie, and other great Oldies Artists, and many years of various bands,(i.e. TOKEN) The Tune-O-Matics were formed in 1996 Jerry B.Gooderum < Keys, Guitar, Sax, Harmonica, Vocals > Cody L. Eads < Guitar, Vocals > Rick 3 Fingers Stepp < Bass, Vocals and a Drummer we sprung from the jailhouse.(Bill Doolin) It wasn't long before our drummer was back in jail so we hired the former frontman from SCHOOLBOY CRUSH (Rance Crane) who was living in a closet behind a music store and happened to be an excellent singer/drummer.(1997 lineup photo top right) We had some great road trips together with that bunch, cold nights, long drives, hot music, and lots of partying. We did everything together, like a family. I miss those days. Just when things started to take off our bass player fell asleep on the job. (I mean he REALLY fell asleep on the job !) He was replaced with veteran bass player Robin Smith. Robin gave us a solid bottom and solid leadership, not to mention excellent vocals. His knowledge of the music buisness always amazed me. Pretty soon Rance was able to move out of the closet to his van, that didn't work out so he moved up to Toledo Ohio to be with his family. That lineup was only together for a short time. Well, along came CRAIG LOWE THE STAR OF THE SHOW.(INDIANA JONES)(1999 lineup photo bottom right ) I had never met a drummer with more "stuff" than him, why, he had more speakers than the whole band put together ! It wasn't long before he was more than one of the guys, and had his own dressing room. (The broom closet at the Speedway Moose) Then it was time for Robin too move on to bigger and better things,(unemployment line) and we were forced to hire Marylin Mansin's cousin, Ed Poe. (MA KELLY)By this time we were a pretty established Oldies band. Ed (Dane) was able to play songs he didn't (still doesn't) know on the fly without batting an eye. He has always been a great entertainer even though he needs a haircut. After the tragic loss of our drummer Craig Lowe, Jerry B. Gooderum left the band. Cody and Dane continued playing as the Tune-o-matics with new guitarist Adam Bell and drummer Virgil Whitlock. (Top Right Photo)This lineup played together until 2004. Cody and Dane then hired Guitarist Don Donner and drummer Rick Cathcart.(No Photo) This lineup lasted until 2006 when Don quit. Frontman Jerry B Goode and Drummer Rance Cranehave rejoined the band as of 2008.
